Niche — How I decided where to focus
There is a lot of opinion about picking a niche and whether or not a niche is altogether important.
I have read a few (ok, a lot) of posts about this and got confused at the start of my Medium journey. I didn’t know what niche I wanted to focus on and whether or not I would stay on it longterm. I like to write about a variety of subjects so trying to niche only put up blocks that made writing impossible.
In the last few days, I have been writing daily on Medium and I started thinking again about niche. I don’t intend to niche down on Medium. Yet. I however will niche down my blog. I went through my old journals from 2009 and remembered two themes I love to write on.
One of the themes is the same theme I speak about on my Podcast. Imagine the broad smile on my face when it occurred to me that I could make the theme of my blog the same as my podcast.
Writing daily certainly has its magic and I am looking forward to creating posts and information around this theme.
The other thing I did was learn how to write a blog post, professionally. I find that most blog posts are long and this is not something I am used to. Yet. I also find that the professional blogs have a coherent flow and pattern to their delivery. If I can learn to blog with photos like I do here, I can learn to format my blog and deliver on my chosen niche.
Confession- Sundays are usually my rest day and I limit my screen use. I was about going to bed when I remembered I hadn’t posted on Medium today. I considered skipping this post and declaring Sunday as the no-Medium-post day but then I remembered my goal here and typed this out.
Day 10 of 100 days of blogging on Medium.
